Hello, dear readers, and hopefully soon – friends. We are very happy to have the chance to talk to you directly and share our passion for travelling and more specifically, travelling the ecotourist way.
If you have already read the welcome post on this blog, then you know what ecotourism is and how it helps preserve the beautiful nature we were all given for free to love and explore, but we often tend to take it for granted.
Now, we thought it would be a good idea to tell you who we are, how we came to discover ecotourism, and why we decided to create the blog. Enjoy reading and remember to always respect nature.
More About the Creators
Considering the fact that the blog specifically caters to European ecotourism, you can guess where we are all from. There is just one catch though – we are all from different European countries. As much as the film Euro Trip got you to believe that Europe was nothing but a shopping mall in comparison to other continents, it does actually take a while to get around.
Our journey begins in the United Kingdom where we all studied at the same university and quickly became close. Four years flew by, and we all returned to our homelands, but the friendship we forged was there to last.
We weren’t particularly sad about leaving university and going our own ways, because we never planned to stay apart for long periods of time. Even once we all found stable jobs, we still found time to see each other. After all, weekends are weekends in every country.
We worshipped low-cost airlines that allowed us to meet up for €20 and less, and boy, did we abuse these low prices. We would meet twice, sometimes even thrice, a month at a new destination, and most of the time we didn’t even book a hotel. We would simply spend 24 hours in one city, sightseeing during the day and partying through the night.
We initially thought we found a hack in the system, but we soon realised how many other young people were doing the same. The more the merrier, eh? That saying might sound good in terms of partying, but not when each one of us was contributing to the acceleration of climate change.
Air travel, especially occurring that often, is among the worst enemies to nature. We wish we could tell you that we figured it out ourselves, but it actually took us many years of witnessing climate protests to rethink our ways.
Choosing Ecotourism
Still, we wanted to keep travelling around Europe, but do so in ways that didn’t carry such an enormous impact on nature. One day, one of us found an article on ecotourism and we immediately knew we hit the jackpot.
We read about the principles of this type of tourism and we realised that Europe was the perfect petri-dish for it. We replaced our low-fare flights with longer train rides and we started frequenting places famous for their committal to the preservation of nature.
We ended up having even more fun than previously, and we also learnt a lot more about our host countries than we could ever do in our 24-hour-long binges. Moreover, ecotourist sites showed us some hidden gems that most tourist guidebooks forget to mention, because they’re not in a big city.
This helped us understand various particularities about many different cultures and after each trip, we felt enriched. Now that you know all this, you probably understand why we made this blog; we’re trying to get more people interested in ecotourism, so they can preserve the nature and cultures of Europe.
It’s not only rewarding, but also incredibly fun and interesting to go on an ecotourism holiday, because we promise it would be like nothing you’ve experienced before. The many different places, the elaborate activities, all of this makes for an unforgettable experience, so we hope our blog inspires you to try it for yourself.
